What is the Dubai Fitness Challenge?

It is a city-wide push to get people moving, launched in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Dubai Sports Council organise it.

You choose how to fill your 30 minutes. A walk on the beach, a padel game, a gym class or a bike ride all count. According to the Dubai Media Office, more than 16 million people have taken part across the previous nine editions.

This year’s slogan is “What’s Your 30×30?”, so expect to see it on banners around town.

When is Dubai Run 2026?

Dubai Run takes place on Sunday 22 November 2026. Sheikh Zayed Road closes to cars and becomes a running track for the morning, with the start at 6.30am according to the Visit Dubai events calendar.

You pick one of two routes:

  • 5km: the relaxed option, good for families, walkers and buggies.
  • 10km: the longer course for regular runners.

The road reopens to traffic at 9am, so everyone has to be off the course by then. Last year’s run drew a record of more than 307,000 people, so arrive early and plan your journey before you set off.

RTA will publish this year’s road closures and any early metro hours closer to the day. Check its channels the day before rather than relying on last year’s arrangements.

What happened at Dubai Ride?

Dubai Ride kicked off the month on Sunday 1 November, turning Sheikh Zayed Road into a car-free cycling track. Riders could choose a 4km family loop around Downtown Dubai or a tougher 12km route on Sheikh Zayed Road.

If you missed it, you can still cycle every day of the challenge at the Al Warqa’a Park village, which has a 2.8km track and bike hire.

Dubai Stand-Up Paddle at Hatta

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, Hatta Dam hosts free stand-up paddleboarding sessions, with kayaking and yoga on the water also on the programme. It is presented by RTA.

Hatta sits in the Hajar Mountains, well away from the city, so treat it as a day trip. Check the official site for session times and booking.

Dubai Yoga: the closing event

The challenge ends with Dubai Yoga on Sunday 29 November. It is a mass group session open to complete beginners and regulars alike.

Latest reports say this year’s session moves to sunrise under The Gate in DIFC, with breathwork and a sound bath before a 30-minute group practice. Organisers have not yet posted the final timing on their public calendar, so check the official site before you set an alarm.

Where are the free Fitness Villages?

Three villages run for the full 30 days, all free to enter. Some courts need booking in advance through the official website.

1. DP World 30×30 Fitness Village, Kite Beach

The largest village, right on the sand in Umm Suqeim. New this year are golf and football simulators, a multi-hoop basketball zone and a cricket arena. You will also find group classes on the main stage, boxing, MMA, yoga, Pilates and padel.

2. Dubai Municipality 30×30 Fitness Village, Zabeel Park

The central option. Its headline feature is a new three-level gym combining boxing, MMA, HIIT, circuits, yoga and Pilates. There are also cricket, padel and basketball facilities and a kids’ fitness area.

Zabeel Park is also where bibs and T-shirts for Dubai Ride and Dubai Run are handed out, so you will need to visit before race day.

3. Dubai Municipality 30×30 Fitness Village, Al Warqa’a Park

The most family-friendly village. Bring the kids for the obstacle course, then pick a sport: there are padel, basketball, football, tennis and volleyball courts. A 2.8km loop is shared by runners and cyclists, bikes can be hired (there may be a charge), and women have their own dedicated area.

Community Fitness Hubs

Beyond the villages, more than 23 Community Fitness Hubs host free classes and activities across the city. The full timetable sits on the official website, so you can find a session near home or work.

How do you register?

Sign up for free at the official Dubai Fitness Challenge website. Once registered, you can book individual events such as Dubai Run and log your daily 30 minutes.

Each mass event needs its own registration and a bib, so do not assume your challenge sign-up covers race day.
